Perlid

$280.00

20 X 24 original acrylic painting on gallery-wrapped canvas.

This is a portrait of a stream-dwelling macroinvertebrate larvae that I encountered frequently in my work as an aquatic ecologist.  Although it measures only an inch in length when fully mature, I always think of it as the charismatic megafauna of the stream bottom world due to its striking pattern on its exoskeleton and large size relative to the rest of the insect larvae living under the rocks in streams.  For this reason I chose to paint it larger than life, its strikingly sharp features standing out bold against a watery/pebbly/bubbly background, where we can fully appreciate its glory, armpit and anal gills and all.

Ships unframed in a generously padded box. If you are local to Vermont you may also opt for “pickup” upon checkout at the Emile Gruppe Gallery in Jericho, VT.
