From Up Here - Book Pre-Order

$22.00

“From Up Here” is a heartfelt memoir of a river ecologist turned artist as she seeks to uncover her true nature in the Vermont mountains.  It’s a story about finding opportunity amidst formidable challenges, opening to new possibilities, and seeking spiritual clarity in the forest trails and mountains of Vermont.  It offers personal reflections on the intersection of science and art through the power of observation, and existential lessons to be learned from a river.

Amidst a mental health crisis, Gretchen Alexander stepped away from a long career as a river ecologist to pursue her calling as an artist.  The body of work “From Up Here” chronicles her story of searching for inner-peace and self-acceptance while hiking amidst mossy roots and glacier-worn mountain peaks.  In her depiction of diminutive mushrooms emerging from the forest floor, tumbling streams, well-worn shaded paths and dramatic vistas, Gretchen captures the essence of immersion in the Vermont mountains with vivid colors and bold brushstrokes.  In sharing this deeply personal story, she hopes it might help whoever may need it.

This soft-cover book measures 6X9 inches and is ~50 pages of text and full color images. It is expected to be ready to ship by early June 2025. If you are local to Vermont you may opt for “pickup” upon checkout at the Emile Gruppe Gallery in Jericho, VT.
