“From Up Here: Why I Walk in the Mountains” is a solo exhibition of Gretchen’s mountain-themed paintings at the Emile Gruppe Gallery in Jericho, Vermont, June 19 - July 20. This body of work is a reflection of Gretchen’s experience hiking Vermont’s mountains and conveys her strong love and appreciation for these places as well as the emotions of wonder, peace and excitement she feels when within them. The pieces are accompanied by Gretchen’s written prose compiled in a book of short essays which touch on the subjects of mountains as gateways, mental health and its relationship to creative expression, and commonalities between science and painting as modalities of “seeing”.
